Creating the mailing list
If you already have a mailing list to which you want to subscribe your
visitors, you can skip this page. Here we will look at how to create a mailing
list using the Cyberiot list server.
A mailing-list is a collection of email addresses which can be addressed as
one. Once we have added a set of email addresses to a mailing list, we can email
all the recipients by sending the email to the list address. People request to
join and leave the list through subscription and unsubscription
requests respectively. Subscription and unsubscription is handled automatically
via the list's contol address.
To create a mailing list, follow the step-by-step instructions below
- Click the Mailing List icon on you Cyberiot Control Panel.
- Click the button to install it. The mailist server
takes about 10 minutes to install.
- Once the list server is installed, you control your
mailing lists from the Mail Manager Control
Panel icon
- Go to your Control Panel and select Mail Manager.
- On the left-hand side of the Mail Manager screen you'll see a list of
your mailboxes, plus a new Mailing list section. Click the New List
link within this section.
- You must now choose a name for your list. Choose something short and simple,
without spaces or punctuation.
When you click the Add button the list will
be created, and you will be given lots of important information about the list
you created.
Please note down the following information:
- The request address This is the address to send subscription and
unsubscription requests to. It will be in the format listname-request@yourdomain.com
- The list address This is the address to send mail for the list to. It
will have the form listname@yourdomain.com
- Your new mailing list should now appear on the left-hand side of the Mail
Manager window. If you click on the listname, it will allow you to change
settings about the list, such as entering the email address of the list
maintainer (the person who controls the list).
- You now have Three options for your mail list
type:
- Newsletter (where only the list maintainer can post to the
list)
- Subscriber-only list (where anyone on the list can post to it)
- Moderated list (where the list maintainer approves all the
mails to the list before they are sent). It is up to you how you choose to set
up your list.
